Heavy rain and thunderstorms across Delhi-NCR disrupted flight operations on Monday, with more than a dozen flights from Delhi Airport reportedly diverted as airlines issued advisories asking passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Airlines said adverse weather conditions were affecting flight schedules and operations. IndiGo said it was monitoring the weather situation and advised passengers to check real-time flight updates and allow additional travel time because of possible traffic disruptions.
Air India also warned passengers that weather-related disruptions could affect flights arriving at and departing from Delhi and urged travellers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.
Akasa Air said severe weather in Delhi had affected some flights across its network, while SpiceJet cautioned that arrivals, departures and connecting flights could face delays because of the weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued weather alerts for Delhi, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds in parts of the national capital.
Amid the weather disruption, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) also issued travel advisories for passengers. It asked flyers to remain updated about local weather conditions at both their departure and arrival destinations.
The AAI further advised passengers to reach the airport well in advance, noting that heavy rain could affect road traffic and increase travel time.
With weather conditions continuing to affect flight operations, passengers have been advised to check directly with their respective airlines for the latest information regarding departures, arrivals, delays and possible cancellations before travelling to the airport.
