Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Monday laid the foundation stones for two road projects in the Kotkapura Assembly constituency, with a combined estimated cost of Rs 6.15 crore.
The foundation stones were laid at Khoohi Wala Dera in village Wandar Jatana for the upgradation of the link road from Wadar Daraka-Duareana to the Kotkapura-Jalaliana Road, and at village Khara for the construction of the Khara-Thara link road.
Addressing the gathering, Sandhwan said the Wadar Daraka-Duareana to Kotkapura-Jalaliana Road would be widened from 10 feet to 18 feet at a cost of Rs 5.197 crore. Around Rs 36 lakh has also been earmarked for its maintenance for the next five years.
The 2.70-km Khara-Thara link road will be newly constructed at a cost of Rs 95.15 lakh, while Rs 9.39 lakh has been allocated for its maintenance.
Sandhwan said the Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was continuously strengthening rural road infrastructure across the state. The two projects are expected to improve connectivity and transportation facilities for residents of Khara, Thara, Wadar Daraka, Duareana, Jalaliana and adjoining villages.
He said quality standards would be strictly maintained during the construction work and directed the concerned officials to complete the projects within the stipulated time.
Sandhwan added that development works aimed at the overall progress of the constituency would continue in the future.
Market Committee Kotkapura Chairman Gurmeet Singh Arewala, representatives of the gram panchayats of Wadar Daraka, Duareana, Jalaliana, Khara and Thara, officials and employees of the Punjab Mandi Board, village representatives and a large number of local residents were present on the occasion.
