Actor and producer Anjali Patil has described the world premiere of her film “Selvi” at the 31st Busan International Film Festival as a major milestone for the entire team.
“Selvi” will premiere in the Vision – Asia section of the festival, which is scheduled to be held from October 6 to 15, 2026.
Speaking about the film’s international debut, Patil said the project became an opportunity for her to reclaim creative independence and tell a story that required patience and intimacy.
“As an actor and producer, Selvi became my way of reclaiming creative independence for stories that need patience to be told. It’s a personal, intimate observation of the ordinary people in healthcare who spend their lives caring for others, even as their own lives quietly wither. Premiering at Busan is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of. We would be bringing Selvi back home, to the people to whom it truly belongs,” she said.
Written by Sailesh, the film follows a woman through an ordinary day. The writer said he wanted the narrative to remain close to the protagonist’s everyday life without over-explaining her experiences.
“Selvi is about a woman moving through an ordinary day. I wanted the film to move with her, to stay close to her life without explaining it or asking it to mean more than it already does,” Sailesh said.
The film is led and produced by National Award-winning actor Patil under her production banner, Anahat Films, which she founded in 2021.
“Selvi” is co-produced by the Red Sea Fund, an initiative of the Red Sea International Film Festival, and supported by Hong Kong Asia Film Financing.
The project marks Anahat Films’ first full-length Tamil feature. The production banner has previously backed projects including “The Moogai,” which premiered at Sundance in 2023, and “Baksho Bondi,” which was showcased at the Berlinale in 2025.
Anahat Films has said it aims to bring meaningful fiction and non-fiction stories to audiences in India and around the world.
