Actress Samikssha Batnagar has opened up about joining the popular television show Anupamaa, saying the strength and personality of her character Shruti Ahuja were among the main reasons she accepted the role.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, Samikssha said she first considers what she can contribute to a character before accepting any acting assignment, whether it is a film, television show or individual role.
“For me, it is very important to understand what I can bring to that character. As an actor, what contribution can I make to it?” she said.
The actress said the popularity of Anupamaa and the opportunity to work with DKP Productions also influenced her decision to join the show.
“Anupamaa was already a very popular show. People love it immensely. The most important thing for me was that when I got the opportunity to work with DKP Productions, I really wanted to work with them,” she said.
Samikssha said she was particularly drawn to Shruti Ahuja after understanding the character’s emotional depth and personality.
“Fortunately, I got to play a very interesting character, Shruti Ahuja, in Anupamaa. As soon as I understood the character, I felt that it had strength and that it suited my personality. That convinced me to accept the role quickly. Thankfully, people have also been loving it,” she said.
She also discussed the challenge of portraying Shruti without allowing the character to be perceived as negative.
According to the actress, Shruti is a mother who deeply loves her daughter and has her own emotions and concerns regarding Anupama. Samikssha said she wanted to portray those emotions while establishing that Shruti is essentially a positive character.
“She is a mother who has to justify herself for her daughter. She loves her daughter, but at the same time, she is not a negative character, and I did not want people to perceive her that way,” she said.
Samikssha added that every role presents its own challenges and that an actor’s responsibility is to portray the character convincingly on screen.
Samikssha joined Anupamaa in April 2026, replacing Sukirti Kandpal as Shruti Ahuja. Produced by Rajan Shahi, the Star Plus daily soap features Rupali Ganguly in the lead role.
