Two children were killed and seven others injured after debris from a Ukrainian drone fell on a private children’s centre in Russia’s southwestern city of Krasnodar, regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Monday.
Kondratyev said the children who were injured were receiving medical treatment, while two adults were also admitted to hospitals following the overnight attack.
The drone strike damaged residential buildings, apartment blocks under construction and warehouse facilities in Krasnodar, according to the governor.
Russian e-commerce company Ozon said its logistics centre in the city was also hit. Employees were evacuated and no casualties were reported at the facility, while warehouse intake operations were suspended.
Ozon said the incident marked the third strike on one of its warehouse facilities this year. Its Samara facility was hit on Saturday, followed by an attack on a warehouse in Orenburg on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air-defence systems intercepted and destroyed 269 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over several Russian regions in a 12-hour period on Sunday.
The ministry said the drones were intercepted between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Moscow time, as the conflict continued to see attacks on infrastructure and logistics facilities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier said Ukrainian forces had repeatedly targeted civilian and logistics facilities in Russia with missiles and drones over the previous 40 days. He described the attacks as an attempt by Ukraine and its Western backers to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.
Putin said Russian forces were continuing offensive operations along all fronts and increasing military pressure, while reiterating that Moscow would pursue the objectives of its military operation.
