Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tribute to former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on his death anniversary, recalling his contributions as a legal expert, parliamentarian and administrator and saying his legacy would continue to inspire young leaders.
“Remembering Arun Jaitley Ji on his Punyatithi. An incisive legal expert, a masterful speaker and an ace administrator, Jaitley Ji contributed to taking the policies of the govt to the masses through impactful communication and played a crucial role in executing the game-changing policies of the government. His enduring legacy will continue to inspire young leaders,” Shah posted on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered Jaitley as a skilled administrator and outstanding parliamentarian with a deep understanding of constitutional and legal matters. He said Jaitley’s foresight, logical approach to politics and policy, and commitment to national interest would remain an inspiration.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar described Jaitley as a friend and mentor to many, highlighting his wisdom, warmth and dedication to public service.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute, recalling Jaitley’s contribution to nation-building and his sharp political and intellectual insights.
Jaitley, who served in several key Union portfolios including Finance, Defence, Corporate Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, and Law and Justice, played a prominent role in shaping major economic and tax reforms under the Narendra Modi government. He was particularly associated with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Known for his legal expertise, parliamentary interventions and ability to explain complex policy issues, Jaitley remained a key figure in the BJP’s political and policy leadership.
Jaitley died on August 24, 2019, aged 66. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2020 for his contribution to public affairs.
