Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted three alleged illegal arms and drug trafficking networks with the arrest of five persons, including a juvenile, and the recovery of nine pistols and 6.311 kg of heroin, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Armaandeep Singh, 20, and Teerath Singh, 20, both residents of Sheikhmanga village in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala; Shamsher Singh alias Shera, 21, of Hetampura village in Amritsar Rural; Kamlesh Rani, 65, of Indira Colony, Amritsar; and a juvenile.
Police also impounded three motorcycles allegedly used for transporting the arms and narcotics.
The recovered weapons include three .30-bore Zigana pistols and one 9mm Zigana pistol, all stated to be made in Turkey; three .30-bore pistols made in China; one 9mm Glock pistol made in Austria; and one 9mm Beretta pistol made in Italy.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers and were receiving consignments of illegal arms and drugs for onward supply as directed by them.
He said investigators were working to establish the complete forward and backward linkages of the network and identify other persons involved in the alleged trafficking operations.
Giving details of the first operation, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said police teams, acting on specific information, arrested Armaandeep Singh and Teerath Singh and recovered six illegal pistols from them.
In the second operation, police arrested a juvenile in connection with the recovery of 6.090 kg of heroin. During the subsequent investigation, Kamlesh Rani was arrested and another 211 grams of heroin was recovered from her possession.
Gill said the investigation had indicated that the two accused were allegedly operating on the directions of the juvenile’s cousin. Kamlesh Rani was also found to have a previous case registered against her under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.
In the third operation, police arrested Shamsher Singh alias Shera and recovered three illegal pistols from him.
Gill said more arrests and recoveries were expected as the investigation progresses.
Three separate FIRs have been registered in connection with the operations: FIR No. 151 dated August 19, 2026, under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment; FIR No. 194 dated August 20, 2026, under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta; and FIR No. 154 dated August 22, 2026, under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment.
