Shiromani Akali Dal leader S. Peer Mohammad on Wednesday said that three important facts regarding the broadcast of Gurbani from Sri Darbar Sahib have now become clear — no television channel has exclusive rights over Gurbani broadcast, no individual or organisation can act as a gatekeeper, and adherence to Sikh Maryada remains the only essential requirement.
Emphasising the spiritual significance of Gurbani, Peer Mohammad said the live broadcast from Sri Darbar Sahib is the shared heritage of the entire Sikh community and cannot be treated as the commercial property of any single television channel.
He said no one should be allowed to create obstacles between the Guru’s message and the Sikh Sangat across the world.
Appealing to all television channels, including Living India, Spokesman TV, Zee Punjabi, GTC Punjabi and others, Peer Mohammad urged broadcasters to start telecasting Gurbani from the SGPC’s official broadcast feed.
He said that following the announcement by the Shiromani Akali Dal spokesperson, there was no reason for any further delay in making Gurbani accessible to devotees through multiple platforms.
Peer Mohammad also requested the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to issue a brief written advisory confirming the broadcast arrangement and clearly specifying the guidelines related to Sikh Maryada.
He said such an advisory would help all broadcasters follow uniform standards and prevent any future misunderstandings or disputes.
Concluding his statement, Peer Mohammad said that greater reach of Gurbani broadcasts would ensure that the Guru’s message reaches every corner of the world.
The press statement was issued by Media In-charge S. Tejinder Singh Pannu.
