Actor Sunny Deol has revisited the beginning of his film career as his debut movie Betaab completed 43 years, expressing gratitude for the love and support he has received over decades in cinema.
The actor shared a video from the 1983 romantic drama on Instagram and recalled how the film marked the start of his journey as an actor.
“43 years ago, Betaab began my journey in cinema. The love I received and continue to receive today has been my greatest strength. Grateful for every memory, every film and every person who has been part of this journey,” Sunny wrote.
He also shared the popular song Jab Hum Jawan Honge from the film, featuring himself and Amrita Singh. The romantic track, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Shabbir Kumar, remains one of the most remembered songs from Betaab.
Directed by Rahul Rawail, Betaab marked Sunny Deol’s official Bollywood debut and paired him opposite Amrita Singh. The film, which also featured Shammi Kapoor and Prem Chopra, became a major box-office success and established Sunny as one of the leading young actors of his generation.
The film’s story was loosely inspired by William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. It was launched in 1981 in the presence of legendary figures including Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dharmendra and Saira Banu.
Before his debut in Betaab, Sunny Deol made a brief uncredited appearance in the 1982 film Main Intaquam Loonga, starring his father Dharmendra.
Upon release, Betaab emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 1983 and gained popularity across languages, inspiring remakes including the Telugu film Samrat (1987) and the Kannada adaptation Karthik (2011).
