Athletes from Lovely Professional University (LPU) have delivered a remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning eight medals for India, including four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
A total of 11 LPU athletes represented India across boxing, weightlifting, athletics and judo at the prestigious multi-sport event, further strengthening the university’s reputation as a major contributor to Indian sports.
Leading the medal tally was Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (MA Psychology, ODL), who won a gold medal in weightlifting. Boxers Arundhati Choudhary (B.Sc. Health & Physical Education), Jasmine (B.P.Ed.) and Preeti (B.Sc. Health & Physical Education) also secured gold medals, adding to India’s success in the discipline.
Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (MBA, ODL) won a silver medal in boxing, while Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (BA, ODL) added another silver medal to his international achievements with a podium finish in athletics.
In other events, Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi (BA, ODL) won bronze in weightlifting, while Unnati Sharma (B.P.Ed.) secured bronze in judo, taking LPU’s overall medal count to eight.
Other LPU athletes who represented India at the Commonwealth Games included Pooja (Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports) in athletics, Sanjana (BPES) in weightlifting and Martina Devi (BA) in weightlifting.
Congratulating the athletes, LPU Founder Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal said the achievements reflected years of dedication, disciplined preparation and a strong sporting ecosystem developed by the university.
“Every time an LPU athlete steps onto the international stage wearing the Indian jersey, it reflects years of perseverance, disciplined preparation and an ecosystem built to nurture excellence. The outstanding performance of our athletes at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 is a proud moment not only for the university but for the entire nation,” he said.
Dr. Mittal added that LPU would continue to provide opportunities, infrastructure and academic flexibility to help talented sportspersons compete at the highest level.
Over the years, LPU athletes have represented India at major international events, including the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, World Championships and FISU World University Games.
The university attributed the consistent sporting success to its investment in world-class infrastructure, experienced coaches, performance-oriented training programmes, sports scholarships and an environment that supports both athletic and academic growth.
