Actress Surbhi Chandna has said students have the right to raise concerns over shortcomings in the education system but criticised the use of abusive language and personal attacks against political leaders during protests.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, the Naagin 5 actress shared her views on recent student protests over alleged NEET examination irregularities and paper leaks.
Surbhi said questioning the government over issues related to education was a legitimate democratic right, but added that the focus of protests should remain on addressing systemic problems.
“It’s important to question the government if there is any kind of education loophole, very fair enough. You can question it, but what I don’t like is that the important issues we had raised got deviated from,” she said.
The actress said peaceful demonstrations demanding reforms were justified, but objected to slogans, posters and remarks targeting political leaders personally.
She said that while people could openly question government policies and demand accountability, crossing into abusive comments was not a healthy form of expression.
Surbhi also revealed that she had earlier shared a similar message on social media, stating that discussions around flaws in the education system should not be diverted by offensive content or personal attacks.
Her comments come after protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over alleged examination-related issues, where some demonstrators were seen raising abusive slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, in a video message shared on his official social media account, the Prime Minister said he had forgiven those who made such remarks, referring to them as “kids”.
