The Opposition intensified its protests during the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Wednesday, with Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, and several MPs marching from the Gandhi statue at Prerna Sthal to Makar Dwar to raise concerns over the alleged police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar on July 20, the alleged Ram Temple donation embezzlement controversy, and other issues.
Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said India is a democracy and not a dictatorship, asserting that accountability must be fixed if excessive force was used against protesters.
“If children have been fired upon, if pellet guns, tear gas and lathi-charge have been used, then someone must be held accountable. Such actions cannot take place without orders, and those responsible must answer for them,” she said.
Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, also criticised those allegedly linked to the Ram Temple donation controversy and demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations. He said those accused of betraying the trust associated with the temple should be held accountable.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted for the third consecutive day this week as Opposition members raised slogans during Question Hour. Despite repeated appeals by Speaker Om Birla to maintain decorum and refrain from displaying placards inside the House, the protests continued, forcing the Chair to adjourn the proceedings until 2 p.m.
The ongoing Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated disruptions over several contentious issues, including the NEET paper leak case, the alleged police action against demonstrators at Jantar Mantar, and the controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in Ram Temple donations.
On Tuesday, Opposition MPs staged protests inside Parliament over both the Ayodhya Ram Temple donation issue and the alleged crackdown on student protesters at Jantar Mantar, leading to repeated adjournments in both Houses.
Earlier, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Opposition leaders had also demonstrated outside Parliament over the alleged Ram Temple donation irregularities ahead of the day’s proceedings.
The Lok Sabha had similarly witnessed multiple adjournments on Monday after Opposition members demanded a discussion on the alleged police action at Jantar Mantar and sought an explanation from the government on the Ram Temple donation controversy.
