Australian authorities have classified a 2025 attack on a Melbourne-based defence manufacturing company as a suspected act of terrorism, with investigators examining possible links to far-left extremist groups.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and Victoria Police said the Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) is leading the investigation into the July 5, 2025, attack on Lovitt Technologies, located in Melbourne’s northeastern suburbs.
The company was targeted during the early hours of the day, when several vehicles were set on fire and the premises were vandalised.
According to investigators, the attack may have been orchestrated by individuals associated with far-left extremist groups espousing anarchist and revolutionary ideologies.
Authorities alleged that masked members of a group later released an online video claiming responsibility for the attack. The video reportedly expressed support for Palestine and included instructions for making an incendiary device similar to the one believed to have been used in the incident.
A separate video circulated online after the attack featured a masked individual claiming to represent an “Anonymous cell”. The speaker alleged that Lovitt Technologies was targeted because of its involvement in the global F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme, aircraft used by the Israeli military.
Investigators said the suspects believed the company formed part of the Australian Defence Force’s supply chain.
According to information available on Lovitt Technologies’ website, the company supports Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme and several Boeing military aircraft production programmes.
The Joint Counter Terrorism Team said those responsible could face life imprisonment if convicted of engaging in a terrorist act. The investigation remains ongoing.
