Bypoll Results Reflect Changing Political Mood, Claims Shiv Sena (UBT) in Saamana Editorial

Mumbai, August 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shiv Sena (UBT) has claimed that recent Assembly by-election results indicate a shift in the country’s political mood, asserting that growing public dissatisfaction and youth-led protests are reshaping electoral outcomes.

In an editorial published in its party mouthpiece Saamana on Wednesday, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party argued that the bypoll results in Bankipur and Datia reflected changing voter priorities and growing opposition to the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the states.

The editorial alleged that recent youth protests and electoral verdicts point to increasing public discontent over governance and socio-economic issues. It also criticised the ruling party’s legislative approach and claimed that voters are reassessing traditional political loyalties in favour of issues such as employment, education and regional development.

According to the editorial, the by-election outcomes in Bankipur and Datia represent a rejection of what it described as the BJP’s style of governance. It further claimed that these results, along with recent protests at Jantar Mantar, have challenged the ruling party’s political dominance.

Referring to the Bihar bypoll, the editorial noted that the Bankipur Assembly seat, previously represented by BJP National President Nitin Nabin and considered a BJP bastion since 1995, was won by Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party. It also observed that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate finished third, suggesting that voters were increasingly prioritising development, education and employment over caste-based politics.

The editorial also cited the Datia Assembly bypoll in Madhya Pradesh, where Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeated the BJP nominee, describing the outcome as another indication of changing political trends.

While acknowledging that by-election results should not be treated as a national mandate, the editorial argued that such contests have historically signalled larger political shifts.

It also stated that although the BJP retained the Manjalpur Assembly seat in Gujarat, the defeats in Bankipur and Datia had dented the party’s political standing.

The editorial further alleged that issues relating to protests at Jantar Mantar and the Ram Temple donation controversy had affected the BJP politically. It claimed that the ruling party’s parliamentary majority would carry limited significance if public dissatisfaction continued to grow.

Concluding its commentary, the Shiv Sena (UBT) urged Opposition parties to overcome internal differences, asserting that greater unity could strengthen their challenge against the BJP in future electoral contests.
