Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday targeted the Uttar Pradesh government over the alleged Ram Temple offerings theft case, law and order situation, farmers’ issues, healthcare services and road projects, accusing the BJP-led administration of corruption and governance failures.
Addressing a Prabuddhjan Sammelan in Lucknow after paying tributes to socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra on his birth anniversary, Yadav criticised the government over alleged irregularities related to donations offered at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
He said the issue was serious and alleged that instead of answering questions over the alleged misuse of devotees’ offerings, authorities were asking donors to provide receipts. He questioned the practice of seeking receipts for religious donations and alleged that accountability was being shifted to lower-level employees instead of those responsible.
The SP chief also raised concerns over fertiliser availability for farmers, claiming that the distribution system in the state had failed. He alleged that farmers were facing difficulties in getting fertiliser despite government claims of adequate supply.
Yadav criticised the state’s law and order situation, saying the police’s primary responsibility was to ensure public safety. He claimed that the previous SP government had established a modern police response system and accused the current government of failing to strengthen it further.
On healthcare, he alleged that government hospitals had deteriorated and that ordinary citizens were struggling to access quality medical facilities.
The SP president also questioned the quality of road infrastructure projects, including roads in Kanpur and Gorakhpur and the Ganga Expressway, alleging that several projects had developed deficiencies despite large expenditures.
Claiming that the BJP government had lost public confidence, Yadav said youth, farmers and different social groups were increasingly questioning its policies and that public sentiment would reflect in future elections.
Speaking at the event focused on the Brahmin community, Yadav said the Samajwadi Party believes in respect and representation for all sections of society. He alleged that various communities had faced injustice under the present government and promised action on such matters if his party returned to power.
Former minister Abhishek Mishra, who attended the programme, demanded an inquiry into alleged fake encounter cases.
Earlier, Yadav visited Janeshwar Mishra Park in Lucknow and paid floral tributes to the late socialist leader. A large number of party workers gathered during his visit, with brief crowd jostling reported before security personnel escorted him to the memorial site.
