Malvinder Kang Meets Union Minister Gadkari, Renews Demand for National Highway Status to Banga–Garhshankar–Anandpur Sahib–Naina Devi Road

New Delhi/Chandigarh, August 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

AAP MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib Malvinder Singh Kang on Wednesday met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and renewed his demand to grant National Highway status to the Banga–Garhshankar–Sri Anandpur Sahib–Naina Devi road.

Kang urged the Union Government to expedite the long-pending project, highlighting its importance for pilgrims, commuters, farmers, traders and regional development.

He said the road connects two major religious destinations — Sri Anandpur Sahib, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded the Khalsa Panth in 1699, and Mata Naina Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh — and is used by lakhs of devotees and tourists every year.

The AAP MP said upgrading the route as a National Highway would improve connectivity between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, enhance road safety, promote religious tourism and strengthen trade and economic activities in the region.

Kang pointed out that despite earlier announcements and the foundation stone being laid in 2019, the project had not made significant progress. He requested that the road be brought under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for timely development and maintenance.

Following the meeting, Kang said Gadkari gave a positive assurance on the matter and acknowledged the importance of the demand.

He reiterated that he would continue pursuing the project until the region receives modern road infrastructure.

“Better connectivity is the foundation of development, and I will continue raising the voice of the people until this crucial demand is fulfilled,” Kang said.
