The Morinda Police have arrested one accused in connection with a road rage firing incident and recovered a .32 bore revolver, six empty cartridges and the Thar vehicle used in the crime. This was informed by DSP (D) Rajpal Singh Gill.
He said that a case has been registered at Sadar Morinda Police Station based on the statement of Varinder Singh alias Mavi, son of Sukhdev Singh, a resident of village Salempur, under sections 109, 126(2), 140(1), 62, 324(4) of the BNS and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
According to the complaint, the complainant was travelling from Kharar to his native village Salempur in a Bolero vehicle along with his associate Harjinder Singh alias Happy. Near the Gurdwara Sahib at Rasulpur, the driver of a Thar vehicle allegedly overtook their vehicle at high speed, stopped them and opened fire.
The DSP said that when the complainant and his associate reached Salempur village, the Thar driver allegedly followed them there as well. The accused rammed his Thar into the Bolero vehicle, attempted to force Harjinder Singh alias Happy into his vehicle at gunpoint and fired two to three shots. Both individuals managed to escape and saved their lives.
DSP Rajpal Singh Gill said that acting swiftly, the police arrested the Thar driver, Jasvir Singh alias Kala, son of Bhag Singh, a resident of village Samrauli. A .32 bore revolver, six empty cartridges and the Thar vehicle bearing registration number PB65BF-7648 were recovered from his possession.
He further said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident was related to road rage. The accused has been taken on police remand for questioning, and further investigation into the matter is underway. The accused will be produced before the court again today, where police will seek further remand for detailed interrogation.
