Three Senior IPS Officers Posted to West Bengal Anti-Corruption Branch Amid Restructuring Drive

Kolkata, August 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The West Bengal government has posted three senior IPS officers from the Intelligence Branch (IB) to the Directorate of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) with immediate effect as part of an ongoing restructuring of the agency.

According to an order issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department’s Police Service Cell, Inspector General of Police (IB) Murli Dhar, Deputy Inspector General (IB) Akash Magharia and Senior Superintendent (IB) Kamanasish Sen have been deputed to the Anti-Corruption Branch until further orders.

In a parallel move, the Director General of Police issued a separate order deputing 16 police personnel from different units to the ACB for a period of two months. The team includes one Deputy Superintendent of Police, inspectors, sub-inspectors and constables. All personnel have been directed to report to the Anti-Corruption Branch by 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Anti-Corruption Branch is responsible for investigating allegations of corruption involving employees and officials of the West Bengal government.

The strengthening of the ACB comes amid efforts to enhance its investigative capacity. The agency is expected to examine several allegations of institutional corruption that surfaced during the previous Trinamool Congress government, including alleged irregularities in the distribution of Amphan cyclone relief funds and the implementation of Sebaashray health camp projects, in which government officials were reportedly involved.

It is believed that the reorganisation of the branch will accelerate investigations into these cases and lead to the identification of officials facing corruption charges.

The restructuring initiative follows recent remarks by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who said the Anti-Corruption Branch was being overhauled to tackle corruption more effectively and warned that government officials accepting bribes would face imprisonment. The Chief Minister had also chaired a meeting on the issue before the latest appointments were made.
