Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Wednesday condemned the Houthi attack on Indian commercial cargo vessel MSV Faize Noore Oliya in the Red Sea, describing the incident as a “terrorist attack” and a violation of international and maritime laws.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry expressed solidarity with India and said it was coordinating with Indian authorities while providing necessary support to the vessel’s crew members.
The ministry said the vessel was targeted by an explosive-laden boat while sailing in the Red Sea, resulting in its complete sinking. It termed the attack a threat to maritime security, freedom of navigation and international trade routes.
Yemen also praised the rescue operation carried out by the Yemeni Coast Guard with assistance from the Yemeni Navy, which saved all 14 crew members, including 13 Indian nationals, and safely brought them to the Port of Mocha.
The statement alleged that the attack was part of a continuing pattern of Houthi actions targeting maritime navigation, ports and regional economic interests, and warned that such incidents were affecting security and stability in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden.
The ministry also highlighted the importance of multinational maritime security efforts to protect international shipping routes and ensure uninterrupted global trade and energy supplies.
Earlier, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had condemned the attack on the Indian-flagged vessel and confirmed that all 13 Indian nationals onboard had been rescued.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh is monitoring the situation and coordinating with Yemeni authorities for the safety and security of the crew.
The MEA said repeated attacks on commercial shipping in the region were a matter of serious concern and called for restoration of free and uninterrupted navigation in accordance with international law.
