Comedian and actor Zakir Khan has revealed an unusual skill he picked up while building his house — mixing construction material.
Zakir shared the anecdote during his appearance on actor Gopal Datt’s podcast ‘Pehla Pehla’, where he reflected on the early experiences that shaped his personal and professional journey.
Talking about his house, Zakir said it was built while he was living there and involved significant personal effort. “It was built while I was living there. And that house was not made with just love, but with our labour too. We needed four labourers, we hired only three. One is the eldest son. They all contributed but I did most of the work. So I know how to mix material,” he said.
During the conversation, Zakir also spoke about his early connection with music. The comedian is the grandson of renowned sarangi maestro Ustad Moinuddin Khan and said he grew up in an environment filled with musical influences.
Recalling his childhood, Zakir said music was an integral part of his home in Bombay Bazaar, where he regularly witnessed classical music practices. He said young students trained under his grandfather, while instruments like the tabla, sitar and sarangi were frequently played around him.
He also recalled visiting Akashvani for recordings and meeting legendary artistes and ghazal singers who would often visit their home due to his grandfather’s stature in the music world.
Speaking about the podcast, Gopal Datt said the show explores the first experiences and memories that shape people’s lives. He said Zakir was an ideal first guest as the conversation was honest, humorous and offered audiences a different perspective on the comedian’s journey.
