Off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain has earned his maiden India Test call-up after being named in the 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad on Monday, with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah also returning to the red-ball setup.
Jadeja makes his comeback after missing competitive cricket since the IPL 2026 season due to a tennis elbow injury. Bumrah, meanwhile, returns after last featuring in the home Test series against South Africa in November 2025, although the BCCI said his participation will depend on medical clearance following an injury sustained during the recent ODI series in England.
Saransh’s selection follows an impressive run of performances for India A during the recent tour of Sri Lanka, where he scored an unbeaten 70 and claimed six wickets in the second unofficial Test. The all-rounder has accumulated 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 and taken 188 wickets at 27.30 in 54 first-class matches.
Washington Sundar was unavailable for selection for the opening Test as he continues to recover from a right hamstring strain that ruled him out of the Lord’s ODI, creating an opportunity for Saransh’s inclusion.
Led by captain Shubman Gill, India will begin preparations with a four-day practice match in Colombo from August 7 before opening the series at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19. The second Test will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
The Sri Lanka tour marks India’s first assignment in the new ICC World Test Championship cycle following the team’s 2-0 home series defeat to South Africa. India currently occupy fifth place in the WTC standings, while Sri Lanka are sixth.
