Patna, July 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has warned of a statewide Bihar Bandh on July 30 if students and protest leaders arrested during recent demonstrations are not released by July 29.
AISA national president Neha Bora issued the ultimatum after visiting Beur Central Jail in Patna, where she met several detained student leaders and political activists. Addressing a press conference later, Bora alleged that those arrested had been falsely implicated and demanded their immediate release.
She said she met AISA Bihar president Dhananjay Kumar, Janata Dal (Janata Dal Democratic) national president Tej Pratap Yadav, CPI-ML legislator Sandeep Saurav from Paliganj, along with student leaders associated with Patna University. According to Bora, the detainees claimed they had been targeted as part of a political vendetta and alleged mistreatment during police action to disperse the protests.
Reiterating AISA’s stand, Bora said the organisation would continue its campaign for students’ rights and intensify the agitation if those arrested remained in custody beyond the July 29 deadline.
She also raised the issue of the reported AK-47 firing during student protests in Siwan district, demanding the constitution of a high-level inquiry committee and strict action against senior officials allegedly responsible for ordering the firing.
The remarks come amid an ongoing controversy over the incident, in which a police constable has already been suspended and a departmental inquiry initiated.
During her visit to the jail, Bora also met prison officials, who, she said, assured her that the detained students and other inmates would be provided all necessary facilities while in custody.
Meanwhile, student leader Ajit Kushwaha condemned reports of attacks on journalists during the protests, stressing that media personnel must be allowed to perform their duties without intimidation or violence.
