Television actress Shivangi Joshi has revealed that she was sexually abused as a child by a man whom her family regarded as a trusted relative, sharing the deeply personal account during the latest episode of Lock Upp 2.
The actress made the disclosure while responding to a task that required contestants to reveal a secret connected to their “bread and butter.” Shivangi first recalled the severe financial difficulties her family endured after her father suffered major business losses. She said relatives came forward to support the family during that difficult period.
Speaking about one such family acquaintance, whom she referred to as her “Mama Ji” because he was considered her mother’s brother, Shivangi alleged that he exploited the trust placed in him by her parents.
According to Shivangi, the man would often pick her up from school and tell her he was teaching her to drive in preparation for her dream of becoming an actress in Mumbai. She said he would ask her to sit on his lap while pretending to teach her how to steer a car, adding that she felt uncomfortable at the time but did not fully understand what was happening.
The actress became emotional while recalling another incident that took place when she was alone at home. She alleged that the man, under the guise of explaining the entertainment industry to her, began kissing her on the forehead and cheeks before attempting to kiss her on the lips.
“When he tried to kiss me on my lips, I pushed him and accidentally hit him. He got angry and threw me on the floor,” Shivangi said during the show.
She further revealed that her parents returned home in time and intervened. Her father, hearing her cries, confronted the man and forced him out of the house.
Reflecting on the aftermath, Shivangi said the traumatic experience left her deeply shaken and that she was unable to step outside her home for several days.
The actress’s disclosure has drawn attention to the issue of child sexual abuse and the importance of speaking out against abuse, particularly when perpetrators are known to the victim’s family.
