Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday intensified his attack on the Congress government in Telangana, describing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s continued defence of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) as “shameful” in the wake of recent observations by the High Court.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, KTR alleged that the state government had turned HYDRAA into an instrument of political intimidation, selective demolitions and extortion instead of a lawful enforcement agency. He urged the Chief Minister to respect the judiciary and democratic institutions.
His remarks came a day after the High Court directed the Telangana Chief Secretary to replace HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath while hearing a contempt petition filed by a construction company.
Referring to HYDRAA as a “nine-headed monster”, KTR claimed the agency had become a tool for blackmail and political vendetta. He asserted that if the BRS returns to power, HYDRAA would be abolished on the very first day, citing the spirit of the court’s observations.
The former minister accused the government of selectively targeting homes of ordinary citizens while allegedly ignoring encroachments linked to influential politicians, ministers, MPs and prominent builders. He questioned why structures allegedly located in lake beds and Full Tank Level (FTL) areas had escaped action while houses belonging to poor families were demolished despite judicial protection.
KTR also alleged that HYDRAA had evolved into an extortion mechanism used to pressure builders and collect money. He claimed the agency was a renamed version of the earlier EVDM and accused the government of using it for coercive purposes. He further reiterated his earlier allegations of irregularities in the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) system, claiming artificial demand had been created for financial gain.
The BRS leader further alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had repeatedly disregarded judicial directions and that his continued defence of HYDRAA reflected arrogance rather than accountability.
KTR also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of acting as a “secret political ally” of the Congress government in Telangana. He alleged that the BJP was shielding the Chief Minister from corruption-related allegations involving contracts and his relatives, and questioned the lack of decisive action despite Enforcement Directorate raids on Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.
Reiterating his party’s stand, KTR said the BRS would continue its political fight against what he termed the Congress government’s anti-people policies in Telangana.
