Actor Karan Deol says he has never relied on his father Sunny Deol’s celebrity status in real life, joking that the famous dialogue from his upcoming film Batwara 1947 is the first time he has ever uttered the line, “Tu janta nahi mera baap kaun hai (You don’t know who my father is).”
Karan made the remark during the trailer launch of Batwara 1947 in Mumbai on Tuesday, where he was accompanied by veteran actor Sunny Deol.
When asked whether he had ever used the dialogue in real life, Karan replied, “Not really. This is the first time I have said this.”
Joining in the light-hearted exchange, Sunny Deol quipped, “But everyone knows he is my son,” drawing laughter at the event.
The trailer of Batwara 1947 offers a glimpse into the human tragedy of the Partition of India in 1947, portraying the emotional upheaval, violence and displacement experienced by millions as the country gained Independence from British rule.
The historical drama features an ensemble cast including Shabana Azmi, Preity G. Zinta, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. It follows the story of a family whose lives are transformed by communal violence, fear and forced migration, while highlighting themes of compassion, resilience and hope amid one of the darkest chapters in the subcontinent’s history.
The film also marks the reunion of director Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol after nearly three decades. Additionally, it brings together Aamir Khan, composer A.R. Rahman and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed film Lagaan.
Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, Batwara 1947 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
