Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday said the recent students’ protest would be remembered by future generations as a “Tree of Resistance”, describing it as an important democratic movement led by the youth of the country.
Speaking to mediapersons during his visit to Storyline Montessori & Café in Sector 66-A, Mohali, Sandhwan said the spirit of resistance seen during the students’ movement had roots in the farmers’ agitation against the three farm laws.
He said the protest reflected growing awareness among young people about their rights and concerns, adding that the voice of students deserved respect as they represent the future of the nation. He also said the movement had brought several important issues before the public.
The Vidhan Sabha Speaker was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri and MLAs Kulwant Singh Pandori and Manjinder Singh Lalpura during his visit to the Montessori school and family café.
During the visit, Sandhwan interacted with the management team comprising Gurpreet Singh Brar, Harsher Singh Sidhu and Davinder Singh Brar, and appreciated their concept of combining early childhood education with a family-friendly café environment.
He praised the initiative for promoting creativity, storytelling and experiential learning while creating a space where children and parents can spend quality time together. He said innovative education models play an important role in shaping children during their formative years.
Sandhwan noted that the Montessori institution focuses on holistic development of children between the ages of two and five years and has received encouraging response from parents, with enrolment reaching around 35 children in a short period.
He said the learning environment encourages independence, confidence, teamwork and life skills among children while reducing their dependence on mobile phones and television.
The management of Storyline Montessori shared its vision of creating a nurturing environment where children can learn, explore and grow through meaningful experiences.
Responding to questions regarding the upcoming Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, Sandhwan said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led state government would be remembered for taking several decisions in the larger public interest. He reiterated that the Punjab Assembly has consistently worked towards protecting the interests and aspirations of the people of the state.
