Police in Bihar’s Bhojpur district have registered an FIR following allegations that members of the family of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, who was killed in a police encounter last month, were subjected to threats and defamatory content on social media.
The complaint was lodged at Shahpur Police Station by the deceased’s mother, Asha Devi, who alleged that she had been receiving continuous online threats. She named two residents of Bilauti village in the FIR.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly posted abusive and objectionable content on social media, attempted to defame members of the family and issued threats through online platforms.
Based on the allegations, police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. An investigation has been initiated.
Bharat Bhushan Tiwari was killed in a police encounter on June 17 in Bilauti village under the Shahpur police station limits. The latest development comes amid ongoing demands for justice in the case.
Local sources indicated that differences have emerged among individuals associated with the campaign seeking justice for the deceased. The disagreement reportedly intensified after members of Tiwari’s family met senior BJP leaders in Patna, including Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, MP Manoj Tiwari and BJP MLC Pawan Singh, to press for action in the encounter case.
Police are also examining a separate incident involving Anshu Tiwari, a cousin of the deceased, who was allegedly assaulted in Bilauti village. A video purportedly showing the altercation has surfaced on social media.
Officials said a local youth has been accused in connection with the alleged assault. Further legal action will be taken after a formal complaint is received.
Police said investigations into both the alleged online threats and the assault are underway, adding that appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the inquiry.
