Sacred soil from Varanasi, associated with Sant Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, will reach Punjab on August 1, marking the beginning of a statewide commemorative programme ahead of the 650th Prakash Parv celebrations.
The sacred soil, which started its nationwide journey from Varanasi on July 29, will be welcomed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and saints at the Punjab border near Paradise Resort, village Jharmari, near Lalru, at 10 am on August 1.
The procession will pass through Ram Talai Road, Dera Bassi and Zirakpur before reaching Arya Samaj Mandir, Sector 7, Chandigarh, where a state-level programme will be organised. Following the event, Kalash Yatras carrying the sacred soil will be flagged off to different districts of Punjab.
BJP Punjab General Secretary Jagmohan Singh Raju announced the programme during a press conference in Chandigarh and said the party has planned a six-month-long campaign to mark the 650th Prakash Parv of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj.
He said the objective of the programme is to spread Sant Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj’s message of equality, social harmony, brotherhood, justice and the vision of Begampura among people across Punjab.
Raju said the Kalash Yatras will travel from district headquarters to villages across the state from August 2 to 6. He added that the campaign will later include a two-month youth outreach programme in schools, colleges and among young people.
The celebrations will conclude with a nationwide yatra reaching Varanasi on February 20.
Raju said the commemorative programme reflects the BJP’s efforts to highlight the teachings and contributions of India’s spiritual leaders. He added that similar nationwide events were earlier organised to mark major anniversaries associated with Sikh Gurus.
He said the journey of sacred soil from Varanasi to Punjab represents the beginning of the state-level celebrations and expressed confidence that people from all sections of society would participate in the programme.
