Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib Malvinder Singh Kang met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and submitted representations seeking action on pending railway infrastructure and safety issues in Punjab.
During the meeting, Kang highlighted three major demands, including approval for railway under bridges, safety measures at an unmanned railway crossing and expansion of railway connectivity in the Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency.
Kang urged the Railway Minister to approve the construction of a Railway Under Bridge (RUB) at the Nawanshahr railway crossing on the Rahon-Ghakuwal-Kariyam Road in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. He said the railway crossing has become a major obstacle for commuters, farmers, traders, students and emergency vehicles due to frequent traffic disruptions.
He said the proposed RUB would reduce congestion, improve connectivity and provide safer movement for residents of the area.
Kang also demanded an underpass at the railway crossing on Kariyam Road, stating that the railway gate remains closed for several hours daily, affecting villages including Rahon, Ghakowal, Karyam, Beli, Bara Pind, Bhauwal and Tapprian Bas.
He said prolonged closure of the crossing creates difficulties for emergency services, daily commuters and agricultural activities, making the underpass an urgent requirement.
The AAP MP also raised concerns regarding Railway Crossing C-62 (41-42) at village Basiala in Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur district. He requested immediate deployment of railway staff, conversion of the crossing into a fully manned facility and implementation of necessary safety measures.
Kang said the resumption of rail services and electrification of the railway section had increased safety concerns at the unmanned crossing, affecting school buses, emergency vehicles, farm machinery and local residents.
During the meeting, Kang once again raised the demand for railway connectivity to Sri Chamkaur Sahib, describing it as a place of historic and religious significance. He said the town still lacks railway access despite its importance and urged the Railway Ministry to consider connecting it with the rail network.
He also sought expansion of railway connectivity to Balachaur, an important area under the Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency, saying better rail links would support regional development, tourism and public transport.
Kang thanked Ashwini Vaishnaw for hearing the demands and said the Railway Minister assured that the issues would be examined on priority. He expressed hope that the long-pending railway projects would receive necessary approvals.
