Tesla on Friday announced that test drives for its newly launched 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive have begun at its experience centres across India. The electric vehicle maker also introduced Grok, its AI-powered voice assistant, for Tesla owners in the country through an over-the-air (OTA) software update.
Developed by xAI, Grok has been integrated with Tesla’s AI ecosystem and is available on the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive and Model Y L. The assistant can be activated by saying “Hey Grok” or by pressing and holding the voice button on the steering wheel.
According to the company, Grok supports several Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. It offers features such as voice-based trip planning, hyperlocal location search, explanations of vehicle alerts and personalised interactions designed to enhance the ownership experience.
The 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive comes with seating for five passengers, up to 2,138 litres of storage capacity and power-folding rear seats. Tesla said the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds and offers a driving range of up to 500 km (WLTP).
Priced from Rs 50.89 lakh, the model is available with a down payment of Rs 6 lakh, while monthly EMIs start at Rs 39,990. Customers booking the vehicle before August 30 will receive a complimentary Wall Connector, and home charging support is available across all states.
Tesla also said it has more than doubled its onsite AI training compute capacity in Texas during the first half of 2026 to support the development of autonomous driving technology and humanoid robotics.
Earlier this week, the company expanded its after-sales presence in India by opening its first authorised body shop in Pune.
