Punjab: Rupnagar Police Solve Nangal Murder Case, Arrest Three Accused

Rupnagar, July 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Rupnagar Police have solved the murder case involving the recovery of an unidentified body from the SYL canal in Nangal and arrested three accused in connection with the crime.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh said that an unidentified body was recovered from the SYL canal near village Patti, Nangal, on July 28. The body was taken out from the canal and kept at a hospital for identification.

He said the deceased had multiple tattoos on his body, following which photographs were circulated through social media to establish his identity. On July 30, the deceased was identified by his wife Neeru Bala as Balwinder Pal, a resident of village Bilga and currently residing in Dubeta area under Nangal police station.

Based on the statement of the deceased’s wife, Police Station Nangal registered FIR No. 140 dated July 30 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.

The SSP said that during the investigation, police teams working under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Gurdeep Singh Gosal and DSP Nangal Navinpal Singh Lehal, and led by SHO Nangal Inspector Danishveer Singh, arrested Amitoj alias Toji, Amarjit alias Judge and Gaurav alias Gori.

According to preliminary investigation, Balwinder Pal was known to the accused Amarjit alias Judge, who allegedly had frequent disputes with him while under the influence of alcohol and had previously threatened him. Police said that due to this alleged enmity, the accused intoxicated the victim on July 28 and murdered him before disposing of the body in the canal in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The SSP said the accused have previous involvement in theft and drug-related cases. They were produced before a court on July 31, which granted three-day police remand for further questioning. Police said more information is expected to emerge during the investigation.

Two Arrested With Seven Illegal Weapons in Separate Case

In another case, Rupnagar Police arrested two persons and recovered seven illegal pistols and six live cartridges from their possession during a special drive against criminals and gangsters.

SSP Maninder Singh said that a police team led by DSP (Detective) Rajpal Singh Gill arrested Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, a resident of Madanpura village in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh, along with his associate Raman alias Khan from Saini Majra village in the same area.

The accused were intercepted while travelling in a white Maruti Brezza car bearing registration number HP 17E 9384. Police recovered seven illegal pistols and six live cartridges from their possession.

The SSP said that on the night of July 27, a CIA Rupnagar team led by Inspector Mandeep Singh and Sub-Inspector Gurinder Singh was present near Shiv Mandir on IIT Road when they received information about the accused. Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle and made the arrests.

An FIR No. 175 dated July 28 was registered at Police Station City Rupnagar under relevant sections of the Arms Act.

The accused have been produced before the court and police remand has been obtained. Further investigation is underway to trace their criminal links and identify other persons associated with the illegal weapons network.
