Punjab AAP MP Meet Hayer Alleges Parliament Speech Blocked on Instagram

Chandigarh, July 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP from Sangrur, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, on Friday alleged that the BJP-led Central Government was undermining democracy and freedom of expression after his speech in Parliament was reportedly blocked from being viewed on Instagram in India.

Addressing a press conference, Meet Hayer claimed that restricting the parliamentary speech of an elected Member of Parliament was an affront to democratic institutions and the mandate of the people. He said if speeches delivered inside Parliament could not reach the public, it raised serious concerns about freedom of expression.

Referring to the recent debate in Parliament on the Bill related to the NEET examination, the AAP MP said his speech focused on education, unemployment and issues affecting the country’s youth. He claimed the nationwide protests by NEET aspirants reflected the unity of young people across religious, caste and regional lines, and alleged that this had unsettled the BJP.

Meet Hayer said he had visited the protest site and witnessed students from different communities participating together while raising patriotic slogans. He alleged that the BJP’s politics had relied on religious and caste divisions, but claimed the student movement had challenged that narrative.

He further alleged that the BJP wanted upcoming elections to revolve around religious polarisation rather than issues such as education, unemployment, inflation and the future of young people because it had no answers on these subjects.

The Sangrur MP also criticised the government’s approach to examination reforms, saying structural changes to the education system were needed instead of what he termed symbolic measures. He urged the government to learn from education systems in developed countries.

Claiming that he had not used any unparliamentary language during his speech, Meet Hayer alleged that his Instagram post containing the Parliament address displayed the message “Post is not available in India” when accessed within the country. He said his legal team was examining the matter and that the party would explore all available legal and constitutional remedies.

The AAP leader also criticised the registration of FIRs against students who participated in the NEET agitation, alleging that the government had gone back on its assurance that no legal action would be taken against protesters. He further alleged that police used excessive force during the demonstrations and reiterated the party’s support for the students.

Responding to a question regarding an FIR over remarks against the Prime Minister, Meet Hayer alleged that an atmosphere of fear was being created by initiating legal action against those criticising the government.
