India strengthened its bid for a rich medal haul in boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, Sachin, Sakshi and Priya registered commanding semifinal victories on Friday to book places in their respective finals.
Their victories took India’s tally of finalists in boxing to nine, underlining the country’s dominance in the ring and guaranteeing at least nine medals from the sport.
Lovlina, competing in the women’s category after receiving a first-round bye, made an emphatic return to action by defeating Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki in a unanimous 5-0 decision. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist and 2023 World Champion displayed complete control throughout the contest to move one step closer to Commonwealth Games gold.
Sakshi also delivered an impressive performance in the women’s 51kg semifinal, comfortably overcoming Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall by a unanimous verdict. The Indian boxer dominated all three rounds, with the judges scoring the contest 30-27, 30-26, 30-27, 30-27 and 30-25 in her favour.
Priya joined the list of finalists after securing a convincing 5-0 victory over England’s L. Kings Wheatley in the women’s 60kg semifinal, while Sachin produced another flawless display to defeat Wales’ O. Harris-Allan by the same margin in the men’s 60kg category.
India’s boxing campaign had already gathered momentum with Preeti (54kg), Ankush Phangal (80kg), Jaismine (57kg), Arundhati (70kg) and Jadumani Singh (55kg) also progressing to their respective finals.
Among the standout performances was Arundhati’s upset victory over reigning Commonwealth Games champion R. Eccles, a result that further highlighted India’s impressive run in Glasgow.
With nine finalists set to compete for gold, India will look to convert its remarkable consistency into a memorable medal haul in the closing stages of the boxing competition.
