Jaipur is set to become a centre for global judicial dialogue as representatives from 52 Commonwealth nations gather for the three-day Commonwealth Peace Mediation and Rule of Law Conference (CPMC-2026), beginning Friday.
The conference, being held from July 31 to August 2, will bring together judges, Attorneys General, senior advocates, mediators, legal experts, academicians and policymakers to discuss ways to make justice systems faster, more accessible and more effective through mediation and the rule of law.
The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of the ‘Jaipur Peace Mediation Declaration 2026’, which aims to establish common principles for peace mediation, conflict resolution and timely access to justice among Commonwealth nations.
Officials said the declaration could become a reference framework for future international judicial cooperation and mediation initiatives.
The conference marks the first time India is leading a Commonwealth-level global discussion on peace mediation, highlighting the country’s role in judicial diplomacy and alternative dispute resolution.
Unlike traditional dispute settlement discussions, the event will focus on “Peace Mediation”, an approach aimed at resolving conflicts by addressing mistrust, hostility and strained relationships along with legal disputes.
Over the three days, delegates will deliberate on key areas including environmental justice, family disputes, restorative criminal justice, commercial conflicts, workplace issues, infrastructure disputes, community justice and the role of mediation in promoting global peace.
Discussions will also cover the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve access to justice while maintaining transparency and efficiency.
The conference will be inaugurated at The Lalit Hotel in Jaipur by Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant. Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Acting Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Attorney General for India R. Venkataramani and other legal dignitaries will attend the inaugural session.
The conference has been jointly organised by the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority, Supreme Court Bar Association, Commonwealth Lawyers Association and Nivaaran.
Legal experts said the initiative could help promote a shift from prolonged litigation towards dialogue, reconciliation and lasting solutions if its recommendations are adopted across member nations.
