U20 World Wrestling Championships: Mansi Lather Wins Silver, Tanvi Gundesh Magdum and Komal Take Bronze

Slovakia, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

India’s women’s wrestling contingent added three more medals to its tally at the U20 World Championships in Slovakia on Saturday, with Mansi Lather winning silver and Tanvi Gundesh Magdum and Komal securing bronze medals.

Mansi narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the 68kg category after losing a closely contested final against China’s Chenling Song. The Indian wrestler went down 1-2 in the defensive bout to finish with a silver medal.

India added two bronze medals through victories in the medal playoffs.

In the 57kg category, Tanvi Gundesh Magdum defeated Canada’s Agnia Krakovska 10-4 to secure bronze. Komal followed with a 5-2 victory over Hungary’s Eda Balazs in the 59kg category, also earning a bronze medal.

The latest medals came a day after 18-year-old Kajal Dhochak led India’s charge with a dominant gold-medal performance in the 76kg category.

Kajal defeated China’s Jingru Sun 7-0 on points (VPO) in the championship bout to claim the world title. The victory added to an impressive international record that already includes U17 World Championship gold in 2024 in the 69kg category and the U20 World Championship title in 2025 in the 72kg category.

Kajal has also won gold at the U23 Asian Championships and the Budapest Ranking Series earlier this year, continuing her progress across heavier weight categories.

India also secured two silver medals on Friday through Tanu Sharma and Savita.

In the 72kg final, Tanu fought Japan’s Chisato Yoshida in a closely contested bout but lost 3-5 on points (VPO1). Savita, competing in the 62kg category, was defeated 2-12 by Japan’s Sakura Onishi by technical superiority (VSU1), finishing with silver.

With the championships entering their final stage, India remains in contention for more medals. The Indian contingent will next compete in the remaining men’s freestyle categories — 57kg, 65kg, 79kg and 92kg.
