The Lucknow Crime Branch, in a joint operation with Hasanganj police, has busted a network allegedly involved in creating fake GST firms through forged documents and circulating fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC), causing an estimated loss of about Rs 27.30 lakh to the government exchequer.
The investigation was initiated into M/s Ghanshyam Enterprises following a complaint received on August 30, 2025. The firm had obtained a Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) for trading in unwrought lead waste, parings and plastic scrap.
According to officials, the investigation uncovered irregularities in the firm’s registration and business activities. The accused allegedly approached various companies and firms using GST entities created with forged documents and generated financial gains by passing fraudulent ITC among themselves.
Police said the transactions existed only on paper and were not backed by any actual business activity. The alleged network was used to evade GST and fraudulently claim and pass on ITC, resulting in a revenue loss of approximately Rs 27.30 lakh.
Acting under the guidance of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kiran Yadav, the Crime Branch and Hasanganj police traced the suspects, gathered intelligence and analysed technical and documentary evidence before making the arrests.
The four arrested accused have been identified as Vaibhav Singh, Mohd Arsan, Vikas Kumar and Mohd Saqib. Police said six mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
Yadav said legal proceedings were underway in Case Crime No. 130/2025, registered at Hasanganj police station under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police are also investigating the alleged involvement of other accomplices and firms linked to the fake GST entities and fraudulent ITC transactions. The Crime Branch is examining documentary and digital evidence to trace further links in the network, officials said.
