Beed (Maharashtra), August 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A three-year-old girl suffered serious facial injuries after being attacked by a stray dog in Beed district of Maharashtra, prompting renewed concern among residents over the growing stray dog menace in the city.
The incident occurred in the Shivtej Nagar area of Dhande Nagar when the girl was playing outside her home. The victim, identified as Shivanshi Rameshwar Gholap, sustained severe injuries to her face and required 12 stitches.
She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in the Nagar Naka area.
The attack has triggered panic among residents, particularly parents, many of whom are now reluctant to allow their children to play outside.
The latest incident comes amid a series of reported stray dog attacks in Beed. Last month, a pack of dogs attacked a young girl near her doorstep in the Dhanor Road area and dragged her from the entrance to the street. Public anger against the municipal administration intensified after CCTV footage of the incident emerged.
Several people were also reportedly attacked by stray dogs in the Mominpura area of Beed city last week.
The latest attack has renewed questions over the effectiveness of measures taken by the municipal administration to control the stray dog population and prevent attacks.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government last month announced a statewide intervention to address the increasing stray dog menace.
All urban and rural local bodies have been directed to strictly implement sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination measures in accordance with the Central government’s Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, and Supreme Court directives.
Industries Minister Uday Samant announced the measures during Question Hour in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in response to a question raised by MLA Arjun Khotkar over the growing safety risks posed by stray dogs.
MLAs Amin Patel, Sneha Dubey, Namita Mundada and Sana Malik also participated in the discussion on the issue.
