Bengaluru, August 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A man was hacked to death in full public view at a traffic signal near the Madiwala underpass in Bengaluru, with police suspecting that the killing could be linked to an earlier murder case involving his brothers.
The victim, identified as Suhail, a resident of Mangammanapalya and owner of a medical shop in Bommanahalli, was travelling from Madiwala towards Koramangala on Saturday night when the attack took place.
Police said Suhail had stopped his motorcycle amid a traffic jam on the main road when four men riding two motorcycles allegedly approached him and attacked him with swords. He suffered severe blood loss and died at the spot.
Investigators suspect the murder may have been carried out in retaliation for the January 13 killing of a man identified as Shabbir in Bandepalya. Suhail’s brothers Kaleem, Nazir and another brother were allegedly involved in that case.
Police sources said Suhail himself had no criminal background and was not an accused in the Shabbir murder case. Investigators are therefore examining the possibility that he was targeted because of his brothers’ alleged involvement.
Senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Mohammad Sujeetha, CCB DCP Haribabu and Joint Commissioner of Police Ramesh Banoth, visited the crime scene and inspected the area.
Suhail’s younger brother Nazir reportedly reached the spot after the killing and vowed to avenge his brother’s death. He described Suhail as someone who was like a father to him and said he would not spare those responsible.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the assailants may have been tracking Suhail for several days and allegedly followed him before carrying out the attack. Police suspect the killing was planned in advance.
The attackers reportedly left the weapons at the scene before escaping. Three special teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the suspects. Police have seized the CCTV DVR from the area and are examining footage to trace the attackers’ movements before and after the murder.
Investigators are also trying to determine why Suhail travelled towards Madiwala after leaving his medical shop in Bommanahalli. Police are examining his recent movements, including who last contacted him before he left the shop.
The killing in a busy public area has raised fresh concerns about safety in Bengaluru, as the attackers allegedly carried out the assault in front of members of the public before fleeing.
Asked whether anyone had been arrested, DCP South East Mohammad Sujeetha declined to comment. The investigation is continuing to establish the motive and identify all those involved.
