Actor Sunny Deol marked 30 years of his 1996 romantic action film ‘Jeet’ on Sunday, saying its protagonist Karan remains one of the characters closest to his heart.
Sunny shared a scene featuring himself and co-star Karisma Kapoor from the film on Instagram and thanked audiences for continuing to shower the movie with love.
“30 years of Jeet. Karan, his love, his anger, his sacrifice — a character that still lives in my heart. Thank you for all the love you have given this film for 30 years,” Sunny wrote.
Written and directed by Raj Kanwar, ‘Jeet’ was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film also starred Salman Khan, Tabu and Amrish Puri in key roles.
The story follows Karan, a ruthless hitman who falls in love with Kajal, played by Karisma Kapoor. However, Kajal is set to marry her childhood friend Raju, portrayed by Salman Khan, leading Karan into a confrontation with his crime boss Gajraj, played by Amrish Puri.
Released on August 23, 1996, ‘Jeet’ became a major box-office success and was among the highest-grossing Hindi films of that year. The film was later remade in Bengali as ‘Laal Badshah’.
Sunny and Karisma also worked together in ‘Ajay’, another 1996 release directed by Suneel Darshan.
Sunny was most recently seen in the period drama ‘Batwara 1947’, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The film also featured Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol in key roles.
‘Batwara 1947’ is inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’.
