Starc’s 10-Wicket Haul Powers Australia to Innings-and-51-Run Win Over Bangladesh

Mackay, August 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Mitchell Starc claimed 10 wickets in the match as Australia stormed back from their Darwin defeat to beat Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs in the second Test at Mackay on Sunday, levelling the series.

Starc followed his six-wicket haul in Bangladesh’s first innings with four more wickets in the second to finish with outstanding match figures of 10-51, his best performance in a home Test.

Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon contributed three wickets each as Bangladesh were dismissed for just 95 in their second innings, after being bowled out for 64 in the first. Lyon claimed the final two wickets after tea to complete Australia’s emphatic victory.

The Test lasted only 750 balls, making it Australia’s shortest Test in almost a century. It was also the third two-day Test played in Australia in the last seven matches.

Australia resumed Sunday with a 101-run first-innings lead and extended it to 146 before being dismissed for 210. Cameron Green continued his strong series with a top score of 67, following his century in the previous Test.

Shoriful Islam was Bangladesh’s standout bowler, claiming 7-48, the best figures by an overseas bowler in Australia since West Indies great Curtly Ambrose took 7-25 in Perth in 1993. His effort, however, could not prevent Bangladesh from suffering an innings defeat.

Starc immediately made an impact after Australia took the new ball. Shadman Islam fell to him early, while Mominul Haque was bowled for a golden duck. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto avoided a king pair but was dismissed by Lyon after being caught at long-off.

Tanzid Hasan, who scored a century in Darwin, was dismissed by Cummins, while Litton Das’s difficult tour continued when Starc removed him without scoring for the third consecutive innings.

Cummins then struck again before Lyon wrapped up the innings with two wickets in three deliveries after tea.

The victory completed a remarkable turnaround for Australia following their historic defeat in Darwin and brought the two-Test series level.
