The Legal Metrology Wing is responsible for protecting consumer interests by ensuring that goods sold in the market conform to the quantities and volumes claimed by sellers and manufacturers.
As part of its enforcement and testing infrastructure, the wing currently has department-owned standard laboratories in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala. New standard laboratories are also slated to be established at Sirhind and Khanna.
The department’s activities are aimed at ensuring accuracy in weights and measures and safeguarding consumers against discrepancies in the quantity or volume of goods sold to them.
