CJP Threatens Fresh Nationwide Protest if FIRs Against Student Agitators Are Not Withdrawn

New Delhi, July 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday warned of launching a fresh nationwide agitation if the Centre and BJP- or NDA-ruled states do not withdraw FIRs registered against participants in the anti-paper leak protests.

The warning came after an interim order of the Supreme Court in a batch of petitions relating to the student protests, under which investigations into existing FIRs have been permitted to continue.

In a post on X, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that students continued to face police harassment and said the party would organise a “massive peaceful protest” if action against protesters was not halted. He also urged the government to stop what he described as the targeting of students.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das expressed concern over the Supreme Court’s interim directions, particularly the provision allowing investigations into existing FIRs. He claimed the order appeared to be at variance with assurances allegedly given by the Centre on July 25 that FIRs against peaceful protesters would be withdrawn and that no participant would face direct or indirect action.

According to Das, the CJP had withdrawn its nationwide protest in good faith after those assurances. He alleged that there were now apprehensions that the court’s interim order could be used to continue investigations and proceedings against student protesters.

Das maintained that the Supreme Court’s order did not prevent governments from withdrawing FIRs or deciding not to pursue cases against peaceful demonstrators. He pointed out that, according to the party, the executive retained the authority to withdraw such cases and urged the Centre not to cite the court’s order as a reason for departing from its earlier assurances.

The CJP spokesperson said the deadline for the Centre to fulfil the alleged commitments expired on Tuesday. He warned that if the assurances were not honoured, the party would resume its nationwide protest movement in support of students who had participated in the anti-paper leak demonstrations.

The Centre has not publicly responded to the CJP’s latest statements.
