Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has paid tribute to legendary Bollywood star Sanjeev Kumar, describing him as one of Hindi cinema’s finest performers whose natural expressions and understated acting continue to inspire generations of actors.
Speaking during an exclusive interaction with IANS while promoting his latest film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, Ayushmann said Sanjeev Kumar possessed an effortless screen presence that set him apart from his contemporaries.
“He had superb expressions. To give such naturally endearing expressions, that too in the 1970s. It was very different,” Ayushmann said.
Highlighting Sanjeev Kumar’s performance in the 1978 classic Pati Patni Aur Woh, Ayushmann praised the veteran actor’s subtle yet impactful style.
“The way he notices the lead and blinks his eye. Every movement was so measured and yet so natural. I think only Sanjeev Kumar could have done that. He was one of the subtle actors of that time, yet commercial at the same time. So, he has set a benchmark,” he added.
Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is a remake of the 2019 film Pati Patni Aur Woh, starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday. The 2019 film itself was inspired by B.R. Chopra’s 1978 classic of the same name, which featured Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur in lead roles.
The new film follows the story of Prajapati Pandey, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, whose married life takes an unexpected turn after he finds himself caught in a series of complicated relationships.
Produced by T-Series and B.R. Studios, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Renu Ravi Chopra and Krishan Kumar.
