Punjab Tops Country in School Education, Says CM Mann While Inaugurating ₹5-Cr School Block in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, July 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday asserted that the state has emerged as the country’s top performer in school education, attributing the achievement to the government’s sustained investment in strengthening government schools, modernising infrastructure and improving teacher training.

The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the newly constructed ₹5-crore Vardhman Block at Government Primary School, Lohara, in Ludhiana. The new academic block has been built with financial support from the Vardhman Textiles Group.

Highlighting the impact of the government’s education reforms, Mann said the outstanding performance of government school students in competitive examinations, including the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the Punjab State Talent Search Examination (PSTSE), reflects the growing strength of the state’s public education system.

Describing education as the most effective tool to eradicate poverty and bring about social transformation, the Chief Minister said no concession or freebie can permanently eliminate poverty, whereas quality education empowers individuals and improves their standard of living.

Thanking the Vardhman Textiles Group for its contribution, Mann said the company had borne the entire ₹5-crore cost of constructing the new block, which houses 18 classrooms equipped with furniture and three rooms for teaching staff. He also acknowledged the group’s continued support in developing educational infrastructure in government schools at Lohara, Giaspura, Kasabad, Ladowal, Sekhewal and other locations.

Referring to recent education rankings, Mann said Punjab has overtaken Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi to secure the top position in primary and middle-school education. He attributed the achievement to reforms undertaken over the past four years, including the introduction of smart classrooms, adoption of modern teaching practices and specialised training for teachers.

The Chief Minister said the state government would continue investing in education, describing it as the foundation for a progressive and prosperous Punjab.

Highlighting the education landscape in Ludhiana district, Mann said nearly three lakh students are currently enrolled in government schools. The district has 16 Schools of Eminence, 11 Schools of Brilliance and 35 Schools of Happiness. He also announced that two additional Schools of Eminence at Millerganj and Division No. 3 in Ludhiana have been completed and will soon be dedicated to the public.

Sharing the achievements of government school students, the Chief Minister said 146 students from Ludhiana qualified the NEET examination, 33 cleared JEE Main, nine qualified JEE Advanced and 47 students successfully cleared the Punjab State Talent Search Examination.
