ED Probe Puts Pressure on Pinarayi Vijayan as Exalogic Case Raises Political Questions

Thiruvananthapuram, July 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Kerala Chief Minister-turned-Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan is facing renewed political pressure as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensifies its investigation into financial transactions involving his daughter Veena Vijayan’s now-defunct IT firm Exalogic Solutions and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd. (CMRL).

The developments come months after Vijayan suffered a setback in the Assembly elections but managed to retain influence within the CPI(M) after taking charge as Leader of the Opposition. Initial criticism within the party over the electoral defeat had gradually eased, with the state leadership standing by him.

However, the expanding ED probe has brought fresh challenges for the veteran CPI(M) leader.

Investigators are examining financial records related to alleged transactions between Exalogic Solutions and CMRL. Political circles have also been speculating that the agency may seek further details from Vijayan as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The issue has changed the political atmosphere around the CPI(M). When allegations first emerged, the party had strongly defended Veena Vijayan and termed the controversy politically motivated. However, as more documents related to the case entered the public domain, the party’s response has become more cautious.

Vijayan recently faced repeated questions from the media over the matter, with the issue continuing to dominate political discussions in Kerala.

The controversy is also drawing attention within the CPI(M). A three-day state committee meeting scheduled next month is expected to be significant, particularly after reported differences between the party’s central leadership and assessments made by the Kerala unit following the Assembly election results.

The coming weeks could prove crucial for Vijayan as he faces scrutiny from both the investigating agency and within his own party.

The political spotlight has also fallen on P.A. Mohammed Riyas, Vijayan’s son-in-law and CPI(M) legislator, over his silence on the issue.
