A Class 10 student who shared the stage with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (MPTM) at a government school in Rampachodavaram three days ago died by suicide on Monday, prompting the Chief Minister to order a thorough investigation into the incident.
Police identified the student as Murram Shivani, who was studying at the Government High School in Rampachodavaram. She was found hanging at her grandmother’s residence in Irlapalli village. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to her death.
According to police, Shivani left behind a handwritten note apologising to her parents for not being able to fulfil their dreams. However, the exact reason behind the incident has not yet been established.
Shivani’s parents reportedly work at a hotel in Korukonda, while she had been living with her grandmother to pursue her studies.
The student had come into the public spotlight during the MPTM 4.0 programme held on July 24 at the Zilla Parishad High School in Rampachodavaram. During the event, attended by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, Shivani addressed the gathering and spoke about her academic aspirations, expressing her determination to work hard and earn the ‘Shining Star Award’ the following year.
Impressed by her speech, the Chief Minister invited her to sit beside him on the dais and interacted with her during the programme.
Expressing grief over her death, Naidu described the incident as deeply distressing and directed officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister recalled Shivani’s enthusiasm and ambition during the school event, saying he remembered her speaking confidently about her education and future goals.
“It is heartbreaking to see a tribal girl with such a promising future lose her life in this manner. Regardless of the underlying reasons, the fact that she is gone before realizing her dreams deeply troubles me,” he said.
Naidu also appealed to students and young people to remain resilient during difficult times and not give in to pressure or despair.
“There is a solution to every problem. Please share your pain and distress with your family, friends, and loved ones. Overcome the pressure and move forward to make your dreams a reality. I want to assure you that the government stands by you in every way,” he said.
The Andhra Pradesh government has been organising Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings in government schools across the state to strengthen collaboration among parents, teachers and local communities for improving students’ academic progress.
