The Delhi High Court has directed the removal of social media links related to the upcoming film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy” from platforms including X and YouTube in a case filed by actor Salman Khan over alleged violation of his personality rights.
During the hearing, the court questioned producer Amit Jani over the release of promotional material linked to the film and observed that he appeared to have assumed there would be no consequences in the absence of an earlier order.
“You seem to think you are above the law. Things are only getting worse day by day. You cannot do this even to an ordinary citizen,” the court told Jani’s counsel.
Representing the filmmaker, the producer’s lawyer argued that the teaser did not violate Salman Khan’s personality rights, stating that the actor’s name was not used and that the video did not contain any deepfake or AI-generated content.
The actor’s counsel, however, argued that the teaser attempted to create a negative perception of Salman Khan by referring to matters connected with the blackbuck poaching case. The counsel submitted that Salman had been acquitted in three related cases, while the sentence in the fourth case had been stayed.
Salman Khan had approached the Delhi High Court after the teaser of “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy” was released on July 17. The film, directed by Bharat S. Shrinet and produced by Amit Jani, is reportedly based on the actor’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case and his alleged rivalry with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
The blackbuck case relates to the alleged killing of two endangered blackbucks in October 1998 during the shooting of Hum Saath-Saath Hain near Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
