Police have arrested Assistant Jail Superintendent Binny Tang in connection with a ₹20,000 bribery case involving the alleged return of a confiscated mobile phone to an inmate at Ferozepur Central Jail.
The arrest came a day after jail warden Rahul (Belt No. 2939) was allegedly caught accepting the bribe for handing back the prohibited mobile phone. SP (Detective) Manjeet Singh said that during the preliminary investigation, the role of Assistant Jail Superintendent Binny Tang came to light.
The accused officer will be produced before a court, where police are expected to seek remand for further questioning.
The case was registered after the alleged bribery incident came to light. Jail authorities conducted an internal inquiry and found violations of prison rules, following which further legal proceedings were initiated.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further developments, including additional arrests or disclosures, cannot be ruled out.
