PM Modi Congratulates Anahat Singh on Historic World Junior Squash Title, Says Win Will Inspire Youth

New Delhi, July 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated teenage squash star Anahat Singh for creating history by becoming the first Indian to win the World Junior Squash Championship title, describing her achievement as a landmark moment for Indian sport.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister praised the 18-year-old’s accomplishment and said her success would encourage more young people to take up squash.

“A historic feat at the 2026 World Junior Squash Championship. Proud of Anahat Singh for winning the gold medal and becoming the first Indian squash player ever to win the World Junior Championship title. This accomplishment will further popularise squash among the youth,” PM Modi wrote.

Anahat secured the women’s singles crown with a commanding 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 victory over Egypt’s second seed Ruqayya Salem in the final. Entering the tournament as the top seed, she remained unbeaten throughout the competition.

The triumph makes Anahat the first Indian to capture the World Junior Squash Championship title and the first non-Egyptian player to win the women’s event since American Amanda Sobhy claimed the championship in 2010, ending Egypt’s 15-year dominance.

The title adds another milestone to Anahat’s growing list of achievements. She won two bronze medals at the 2022 Asian Games at the age of 15 and has also represented India at the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister highlighted several recent achievements by Indian sportspersons.

Congratulating ace shuttler PV Sindhu on winning her maiden Japan Open title, Modi said the entire country was proud of her achievement.

He also hailed the Indian women’s cricket team for registering its maiden Test victory at Lord’s, where India defeated England by 270 runs.

Calling it a historic achievement, the Prime Minister noted that it was the first women’s Test played at the iconic venue and said the victory reflected the growing strength of India’s “Nari Shakti” in international sport.
