The third day of the Miri Piri Khalsa March commenced from Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran, with Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj calling Panthic unity the greatest strength of the Sikh community and urging Sikhs across the world to remain spiritually and institutionally connected with Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Addressing the congregation before the march departed for Sri Goindwal Sahib, Giani Gargaj described Sri Akal Takht Sahib as the symbol of the Sikh community’s sovereignty, self-respect and commitment to justice. He said that despite repeated attempts by successive governments to weaken Sikh institutions, Sri Akal Takht Sahib had continued to guide the Panth with unwavering principles.
Emphasising the objective of the Miri Piri Khalsa March, the Jathedar said the initiative seeks to reconnect the Sangat with Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Guru Panth while educating the younger generation about Sikh history and the principles of Miri-Piri.
Expressing concern over reports that some people were discouraging or preventing devotees from participating in the march, Giani Gargaj strongly condemned such actions. He said preventing anyone from visiting a gurdwara or participating in religious events was contrary to Sikh traditions as well as the spirit of human rights, and urged the Sangat to strengthen Panthic institutions through unity and adherence to the teachings of the Gurus.
Speaking on the occasion, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said the march aims to carry the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji to every household, promoting equality, justice, selfless service, a drug-free lifestyle and freedom from social evils through Gurmat.
Dhami also announced the SGPC’s commitment to establishing dedicated memorials in honour of Bhai Gurdas Ji and Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Ji, describing their contributions to Sikh history as invaluable. He said the teachings of the Gurus remain the most effective solution to challenges such as drug abuse, moral decline and other social problems confronting society today.
Before the march began, a Gurmat congregation was held in the Diwan Hall, where Giani Rajdeep Singh, Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, addressed the Sangat on Sikh history. Following the Ardas, the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was ceremonially placed in the Palki Sahib, while Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj performed the seva of Chaur Sahib.
The Khalsa March received a warm welcome at several locations, including Sanghe, Naurangabad, Vain Poin, Khadoor Sahib, Gurdwara Damdama Sahib and Hothian, where devotees honoured the Panj Pyare, presented siropas and offered rumalas to Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Punjab Police also paid ceremonial respects to the Palki Sahib at the commencement of the day’s procession.
A large number of SGPC members, Sikh leaders, office-bearers and devotees participated in the march.
